Google Toolbar: A New Malware Threat
zdnet article
Trendmicro article

Just one more reason why I keep removing Google toolbars and Goolgel tools when I find them on users systems. I know they don't mean to, but every time you turn around someone finds a way to subvert Google's information, which is quite a bit about the average user.

Then you have this which makes it even worse:
FTC allows Google-DoubleClick merger to proceed

My opinion - Find Google anything on computer - REMOVE IT (but you may need to check, confirm with the user if they want to remove Google stuff as they may not share my opinion)

And that is why we block download.google.com and any other pattern that we can find to subverts our filtering options. Unfortunatly is does not make sense at this time to just block *.google.com

Yeah, plus seems everything you install these days seems to want to add google toolbar - Sun Java and Firefox come to mind. Have learned to one thing - need to pay attention to those install wizards now eh. Used to just click Next->Next->Next->Finish ... not any more man.

Even ZoneAlarm (which is supposed to help fight Virus/Trojans) now includes the ASK.COM toolbar, which I think is way off target since so many users have been trained to stay clear of toolbars.

Yeah. Google is making deals all over the place to have the Google toolbar included in all kinds of apps. What are they thinking? He dl-ed Sun Java so lets also give him the google toolbar? If I wanted that d#mn toolbar then why the h#ll did I download Sun Java? Not to get the Google toolbar.

Even Acrobat has some kind of extra toolbar installed if you don't be careful. I think this one is the Yahoo toolbar.

This sucks imho.

Some more Google news. Seems the marketing, decision team at Google is asleep at the wheel lately.
