Amazon has recently opened a MP3 store and supposedly has more to offer than Itunes. The songs are 256kbps and about the same price as Itunes. The main feature though, you can play these mp3s on any device that supports MP3s, because they lack DRM. Finally!

http://www.amazonmp3.com

I wonder how long will it take Itunes to follow, and make all of their music DRM free.

256kbps... I wouln't even encode my snoring to that :P
It's too much for top 40 and too low for rock music, I wish everyone would just use LAME, and --alt-preset-standard or --r3mix with that. Anyway enough of my mp3 ramblings \:\)

I'm very familiar with Allofmp3. If you do any research, you will see it is considered shady at best. Most people in the US cannot use it any more because the Credit card companies will not process their orders. In fact, they recently changed their name to mp3sparks.com to help get around this.

Well, you could just use a CD-RW over and over again...

Oh, and there's the legal issue of circumventing the DRM in the first place.

Or buying the original CD and ripping it from there? I do this all the time, no problems with DRM and crap

well, with my bad ears a 192kbps mp3 is usually ok - higher is better :). But, alot of the cd's that you can buy in store comes with a bunch of data-crap that gives you a flashplayer and other [censored], and by avoiding that 'protection', I am commiting a crime more or less according to swedish idiot laws. So, buying mp3's right off for me is usually the easiest way to go. I don't care about getting loss-less, don't own studio stuff that can handle all frequencies 'n stuff anyway.
