I dl-ed WinInstallLE (the free version) and created a custom MSI package that has the online update add-on with that nice red cross in front of it so it is not installed when one chooses to do a default install. This means we need to visit each machine but if that solves the problems with our proxy server I'm happy to do that. It’s just a one time thing all new systems are installed with the default OpenOffice setup option which as of now has online update disabled and therefore it does not get installed unless you choose to install it.

Unfortunately there are no JS or XML config files that control the settings for this as far as I can see. Also no registry settings are available to control the online update add-in.
