Hi All,

How do I get the "newbie" moniker removed from my login? I've been using kixtart for a long time and was very active on the bulletin board for quite a while. For a few years I was doing nothing but unix work, so I didn't log in as often and at some point I forgot my password and could never get it re-enbled. So, I had to create a new account.

I just don't think most people give much credence to a suggestion by a "newbie."

Thanks and for those in the USA, have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Regards,

Brad V

The status gets changed depending on the number of posts. If you cross a threshold the status gets changed.

If there was a vote I’d vote for something like "Starter" or just "Member".

Maybe "Fresh meat" would be nice but then again it's not that friendly to new visitors to be called fresh meat

Check out the FAQ: http://www.kixtart.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=faq#titles

Of course not being a newbie you already knew to do that before posting, didn't you?

Not true at all, in my experience. You suggestion will be judged on the merit of its content, not the number of posts that you have.

We all hold Ruud van Velsen in high regard, and he has only 221 posts making him a mere "member"

The only difference is that we're a little more forgiving of cross/mis-posting and other breaches of etiquette with newbies than we are with high posters who are expected to have been around the board long enough to know how to behave.

idk - in most internet circles i hang around in - "newbie" or "noob" is not a nice term at all - and its mostly thrown at you as an insult - even to the point of attacking your basic skills and even your character.

The membership of this board is a little more mature than to sink to that sort of behaviour, which is why the mods have an easy life here - it's a very rare occassion that we have to intervene because a thread has got out of hand.

You must be hanging around the wrong sort of circles - beware of the lure of the dark side...

However, if we've got people getting offended or upset by the newbie title, I don't see a problem with changing to to something innocuous like "Occasional Visitor" or something.

Sorry Richard, obviously I did not read the FAQ. I will now. \:\)

I don't suppose, "Super-pooper" is a good replacement for newbie... Oh well.

Considering this is a technology board, why are the levels set at decimal and not binary boundaries? Ya know, like 512, 1024, etc..

(Jeez, it's a slow day to be coming up with stuff like this)

And - as for a title, I vote for "New Member", which relates to their newness to the board and not to Kix. I'd been using Kix since early '96, but didn't join the board until around '02.

Kix student says something about the visitor’s kix knowledge. Like Glenn said one could have considerable kix knowledge when joining KORG so kix student will be sort of the same as newbie imho.

New member would be a neutral status assuming nothing about the visitor’s kix knowledge.

I guess thats a matter of opinion and therefor indeed shouln't be chosen. However one could have considerable kix knowledge and still call himself a student.

Well the rankings have been updated to remove "newbie" so most people are now "members", which as any fule kno is slang for male anatomy.

What do you suggest we rename that to, KiX Slacker?
