Z drive on 95

Windows 95 will not map my Z drive as a department drive I can use any other drive letter besides Z and it will map the drive, I also tried adding lastdrive=z to the config.sys. Can anyone help me out with this

KiXtart automatically maps the \\SERVER\NETLOGON to z: when running a script.------------------

How could I get around that because i need to map that z: as the department drive. any help or ideas would be appreciated

Kix/netlogon doesn't ALWAYS use Z: as the mapped drive to the netlogon share. It'll use whatever is the last available drive letter.
eg: I always use Z: as my CD-ROM drive letter. That way regardless of what removeable drives and partitions they have, CD installed apps always refer to Z: for alterations. (Ever got stuck with an app that wanted to make changed but couldn't access the install source because it changed?)However, this doesn't help your problem. I've not encountered any way to direct kix to use a certain drive letter, or something other than Z:. ------------------

Hello All,Actually, I don't think you can blaim Kixtart for this. If I remember correctly it is an artifact of the NT Server and if it can be changed, it needs to be changed on the server.

Brad is dead on teh mark when he says you can't blame kixtart for the Z: netlogon mapping.
Microsoft Knowledge base article Q136073 describes this.....

[/url]It's a function of the way 95 & 98 connect to the netlogon share...
As such, I see no way around it.. Perhaps you coudl call MS and try your luck with logging it as a support call, but odds on you'd get no luck. It's no a fault, it's a documented fact. Free tech support generally only works for hotfixes etc of known (or unknown) "faults/bugs".

Hi all,We're not using W9x for ages anymore, but what about the following idea: Create your initial script LOGIN.BAT
This will be called from the Z: drive (as I understood from the info above).
In this batchfile, call another script, e.g. LOGIN2.BAT:
LOGIN.BAT:
-----------------------------
NET USE Y: \\SERVER\NETLOGON
Y:\LOGON2.BAT
-----------------------------
or -----------------------------
\\SERVER\NETLOGON\LOGON2.BAT
----------------------------- From this moment your not dependant of the Z: drive... even better, you must be able the delete or remap the Z: drive from the LOGIN2.BAT file! Regards, Marc ------------------

Hi All,There is a bit I forgot: In this LOGIN.BAT, move away from the Z: drive!!!!
put e.g. 'C:' and 'cd \' before you call the LOGIN2.BAT Regards, Marc
