Glenn Barnas Glenn Barnas KiX Supporter Registered: 2003-01-28 Posts: 4401 Loc: New Jersey	Does anyone think we could use a forum dedicated to login scripts? I've seen a lot of Q's lately for that, and with the move to Admin scripting by hardcore Kix'ers, it would make it easier to find login-related info for new users. Just a thought.. The general forum seems to have taken on an expanded role. It has become a catchall & things that use to be in the other forums are finding there way here. For me, I generally only visit the general forum because I am not active in KixTart scripting anymore but I always liked the guys on this board & I enjoy dropping by every now & then to chit-chat. The general forum use to be a place where non-scripting issues were discussed (like this thread) & it was usually dominated by personal interaction between the posters so it was a natural place for me to come. Now, when I open this forum, it is like opening the scripting forum & I feel out of place. PS: Glenn doesn’t the board already have forums to address these issues. The reason for my suggestion is that the Q's related to login scripts seem to wind up in the Starters forum - which might be appropriate, since one's introduction to Kix is often as a login script. A fair number of Q's also appear in the Scripts forum, possibly because the poster has some experience and wants to move away from newbie status?? or - it's more specific and possibly too complex a question to fall into Starters. - but... If you're new to Kix, and are working on a login script, and new to the board, knowing what and where to search can be intimidating. If we had a dedicated login script forum, it would not only be the logical place to ask all questions related to these scripts, but be the first place to look for answers as well. It would also be a good place to deposit specific code snippets, useful to Kixers of all levels of "savvy-ness". Besides, I just think its odd that a language whose very roots are in login script processing doesn't have a forum dedicated to that topic. $;\)$ Glenn _________________________ Actually I am a Rocket Scientist! $\:D$

We're not high traffic, and one learns from being exposed to other things. Frgmentation would lead to too much specialization. However, maybe two or three best-practices approaches to KiXtart login scripts woudl be helpful. These posts should include deployment procedures and maybe differentiate between single-site AD, and more complex AD structures. I think that some of the Moderators do have experiece with more complex AD forests and below-corporate-level login scripts. _________________________ There are two types of vessels, submarines and targets.

Who would effectively monitor these forums? Based upon my limited observations & Les' comment it appears that the current categories are not being rigourously enforced. Having a whole bunch of new forums where posting are higgledy-piggledy placed would not make things better. Besides how would the newbies know where to go in this maze of choices? Maybe the board needs less forums rather than more? My personal take is that the current number is about right. Also, maybe Les' evaluation is correct & the problem is starting scripters do not like to admit they are newbies. If this is a correct analysis then maybe renaming the starters forum is the appropriate action. PS: Les, you say you are retired - is this from your paying job or just as a moderator?
