Arctic sea ice 'faces rapid melt'

Right know I live 2 meters below sealevel. It means that in about 40 years I live 9 meters below sealevel or a great part of our country is gone...

Euh, yeah. Henri has to change kixtart.nl to kixtart.de or something... Haarlem also will become a new Atlantis if we cannot stop this process...

That's the price for having all that fertile farm land. It's a sedimentary basin. :-(

What about the first century?

Anyway, it is just about giving the feeling that a country "existed" in those days...

LOL \:D I didn't noticed that... So you don't have to subtitle Frisian speaking people in Flanders. As decendants you'll understand them... ;\)

Hmm, In the 1st century it must be French..

Funny, Never thought that I needed KORG to learn more about our history...

there was no france during the first century dude.

Quote:

In the 4th century AD, Gaul's eastern frontier along the Rhine was overrun by Germanic tribes, principally the Franks, from whom the ancient name of "Francie" was derived. The modern name "France" derives from the name of the feudal domain of the Capetian Kings of France around Paris. Existence as a separate entity began with the Treaty of Verdun (843), with the division of Charlemagne's Carolingian empire into East Francia, Middle Francia and Western Francia. Western Francia approximated the area occupied by modern France.

Yeah, but I don't know if it still exists in about 40 years when all the North pole ice is gone... Maybe Belgium is partly under water too...

yes, but you missed the more important line:
"In the 4th century AD, Gaul's eastern frontier along the Rhine was overrun by Germanic tribes, principally the Franks, from whom the ancient name of "Francie" was derived."

and:
"The modern name "France" derives from the name of the feudal domain of the Capetian Kings of France around Paris."

so, france is lot younger, and it was just a area surrounding paris at first.

you either refer to francie or france.
but the area came francie land no sooner than 400AD and france got it's start lot later.
anyway, if there was no netherland as named area that time, there was no france either.

even better this one:
Quote:

There is some disagreement as to when France came into existence. The earliest date would be the establishment of the Merovingian Frankish kingdom by Clovis I in 486 with the defeat of Syagrius, the last Roman official in Gaul. That kingdom's rulers were deposed in the 8th century. The Treaty of Verdun established the Kingdom of Western Francia in 843. Another date favored by many medieval historians is 987, the beginning of the Capetian Dynasty.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_French_monarchs

and none of those numbers get below 400.

Well in that case you are right. I was refering to the language....
In belgium there are three official languages: Dutch(Flemish), French and German. The last one is spoken in a small part of Belgium near the German border. The Dutch speaking Flemings and the French speaking Walloons have a history of linguistic conflicts. So, the funny part is that Witto lives in a part of Belgium where they speak Dutch nowadays while the people who lived there in the past maybe spoke French or Gaulish if you wish in the early days...
