OK, don't laugh too loud. I have just started learning this software, and a dumb question, I am sure is. In the manual is says to install the Kix32.exe file in the NETLOGON folder. Where is the NETLOGON folder on Server 2003? I have searched for it and I cannot seem to find it.

Please help.

mhm, actually it is %SystemRoot%\sysvol\sysvol\domain DNS name\scripts

The path you mentioned is for scripts run from a GPO.

Well I won't laugh, but seriously wonder why someone would hire you as a Network Administrator if you don't have at least that much of a basic understanding of Windows Server.

Don't mean any disrespect, but seems odd that most companies have such high requirements on a job application that are unreasonable, yet you seem to have gotten hired without even basic understanding.

doc, job applications and resumes don't usually speak about true knowledge

No they certainly don't. That's why I said they are often unreasonable.

However the question asked shows a lack of education / knowledge in the area of System Administration on Window Server platform.

Thus I don't see how / why a Company would hire someone with little knowledge in the area of maintaining Server Systems for their Company that probably highly depends on them working well in todays World.

Yeah. Maybe he has just started learning this stuff. Then it would be sort of a legitimate question. No need to attack him on not knowing stuff. We all had to learn once.

Not attacking, but who here was hired on with NO experience and NO education or Training?

Maybe he isn't an Admin, I don't know, but if one inquires about where to place KiXtart in the logon share then that leads me to believe that he is an Admin.

True he could be just a student and asking about KiXtart etc... but that too seems odd to me to seek out KiXtart for logon scripts when fully new to it. Most Admins use batch files or nothing till they learn more.

So - not slamming, just curious what's up and how he became interested in using KiXtart.

on that note:

I found kixtart when digging through MS ResKit for cmd line utilities for my logon scripts. A few googles later (and several years) and here I am.

I think that we all have a bad day now and then and we all know Doc well enough to know that he doesn’t loose his cool very often, if he does, it is a valid reason. Doc I thank you for all that you do for us.

First off, "Don't mean any disrespect" cannot be used as a wild card to then follow with whatever verbage with impunity. DOC, I think an apology would be in order.

Second, there is nothing in Steve's post that would indicate Steve Robinson was hired as an expert administrator. For all you know, he may be just learning on all fronts.

Third, the level of answers provided may be too cryptic for someone that cannot find the NetLogon share. BTW, I checked the manual and it says "share", not "folder". Perhaps if he had realized Netlogon is the share name and not the actual *Folder* name, he may have been resourceful enough to find it. "%SystemRoot%\sysvol\sysvol\<domain DNS name>\scripts" makes certain assumptions.

Steve, Welcome to the board. If you still need help in deploying KiX and/or want to explore alternatives to legacy scripting such as GPO scripts, give us a shout.

Well had I thought I'd actually done something wrong I would apologize but I don't see anywhere where I directly said anything wrong.

I asked a question. If one can not ask a question then surely must be getting time to just quit posting if people are really that high strung.

I suppose I could spend more time with other things more important than KiX. The commradere it once had is surely lacking these days.

Thank you. Yes I am somewhat new to this. The company that hired me was using just a workgroup structure. This company has 9 branches in 4 states. I know a Administration, but very little. To be honest, when I was interviewed, the question to my knowledge of networking and administation was never discussed. When I was hired with the company, they were predominately a Novell shop. In the past 8 months I have fought to get away from Novell and move over to Microsoft. Yes, I was having a bad day when I asked the question. Actually, about 20 minutes after posting my first comment, I realized that the "Netlogon" was a share name and not a folder, DUH!!. Anyway, I learned about Kixtstart from another office I previously worked at. And to answer your question about am I am Admin or not, I am an systems administration in training. Thank you to all who helped out. I appreciate it.

Yep, I agree with Les... that was kinda parking in second row with the hazard-warning flashers on. No offense intended

I have to agree with doc's message.
but again, like already stated, not so many of IT guys get hired because they know what to do.
most do get the job because they are skilled in the paperwork or in the interview or the selector is too lazy.
