I can't not believe I made the top 10. I seem to hardly ever post (or so I thought)

well...
you are in the yearly topTen for this year, so dunno...
either something in the calculator goes haywire or you really are one of the most active members of the board.

which is sad.
not the fact that you are in the top10 list, but the fact that this year top list is reached with so low postcounts.

How much of it is really to do with all of the OT posts. Hmmm wonder what would happen if you could get your calculator to not count any topic that started with the OT in the header....

I know what you mean... Lately I visit most of the time VMware forums instead of the Kixtart/Kixforms forums...

Then, when do we see the first KiXtart scripts to automatically provision and manage VMWare servers?

Jens,

Somthing like the VM hotline only created with Kixtart/kixforms:

Well a buddy of mine wrote a complete backup script in Perl on Linux that can copy the entire volume, and the individual files too so that you can recover the entire box, or individual hosts.

The data of the hosts can be backed up from within Windows with Veritas or other software, but not the volumes.

True,

There are already scripts like vmsnap.pl which can do the same. On the other hand if you use "golden" templates and a backup restore it doesn't costs you much extra time to be back online... It saves storage capacity and time during the backup.

Well the script written in-house at Disney was fully automated. Backed up using Legato to tape. It stores and reads the logs to play back for a restore.

Just let the script know if you're backing up or restoring and which type or volume and let it rip.

The hosts can be backed up and restored live, the entire system volume boots from a Linux floppy and launches Legato and grabs the tape and does a full system restore.

There were guys a couple years ago trying to sell this type of script for $5,000 so we took a couple weeks reading and testing till we got it working right.

Sounds like that one you linked to is not fully working right.

I'm now in a much smaller shop and no VMware
