My client has created a Staff List of names, phone numbers, addresses and we store that as an Excel (2003) file in the Netlogon share on the server.

If memory serves, it is considered poor practice in placing the Excel file on the NetLogon Share unless you want to grant rights to the users.. It would be better to be copied to an Application Server. One of the things that Excel does when you open it with Excel, is that it creates copies of the file you are working on in the same directory you are working in, especially when saving. If you ever have an Excel file crash, there is an opportunity to get the file it was working with, rename it and use it (I have personally seen this!) So, placing this on the Netlogon of the login server won't work.
