Hello all,
Is there a script to enable a user without local admin permissions to install a designated program?
I have to create a .zap file for users to allow them to installed allocated programs via add/remove programs.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Baz

This came up several time already. If you do a search on runas or sanur you will find lots of stuff.

!! BE CAREFULL !!
Runas is NOT secure. Users can see the username and password in the script and (ab)use them to login and do all kinds of nasty stuff.

That's the problem.
I have used in the past a udf for poking reg files without the user being a local admin and was wondering if there is a similar solution to this.

Shawn created a more secure version of runas called runnas (one extra n). It might be helpful in your case.
RUNNAS - Tokenized Runas Utility

Be very careful and readup on the security issues involved.

Shawn did a great job I think, but an advanced user could turn it against you if you're careless with using it.

Thanks Mart,
I'll look into this.
If i want to install a program would I do the following
wkix32.exe progname.tok

[progname.tok]
runnas /user:administrator "\\server\path\setup.exe" /pass:password /tok:progname.tok

Forgive me if this is wrong if I want to tokenise the file?, also will this use the local admin user?.

Thanks

Baz

There is a 3 page post on the subject of pros / cons - usage of the program.

There is also a readme file in the zip file for the program.

Please take the time to read it and experiment with it before trying to use it in production.
