Hello... First time poster, so please be patient. I am trying to set up a login script on a Windows 2003 AD. I have used the Kix scripts in the past in other companies and very much like them. It is currently set up as follows:
1) Currently, I just have one person running a login script (me). 2) I am calling it by adding this to my User Profile/Login Script in AD:
Code:
%0\..\login.bat
3) The contents of login.bat is:
Code:
%0\..\kix32 %0\..\login.kix
4) The contents of login.kix is:
Code:
? "Hello." sleep 5 exit
5) The script runs, but runs minimized and Windows XP Pro continues to login to the desktop.
Here are my best practice questions:
1) How can I get it to NOT be minimized? 2) How can I prevent the rest of Windows from loading until the KiXtart script is finished? 3) How can I accomplish one of those boxes that makes you sell your soul to the company or be logged out?
Thanks for the assistance!

Please review the FAQ forum where I think all of this is addressed in one or more of the Frequently Asked Questions.
If you find that you're not able to locate this information let us know and we can provide further information.
KiXtart FAQ & How to's http://www.kixtart.org/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB10
There is even a Contents Page which might list items easier but does not have all of the definitions that the actual pages have so if not on the Contents then keep looking.
There is also a Search feature where you can specifiy the time period and which forums to search as well.

By the way, if your main script is named "kixtart.kix" then you just have to place the executable name in your login script field. The executable will automatically search for the script "kixtart.kix" in the same directory it was launched from.
Yes it will operate that way, but I highly recommend you don't do that - and don't get into the habbit of sloppy coding like that as it will come back to haunt you sooner or later. Specify exactly what you want it to run.

Thanks to all for the assistance. I convinced the CIO that GPO would be an easier way to accomplish all three. I do have another question about OS verifications. Should I start a new thread to ask that?

I am new to using kixtart in a 2003 Domain also. It doesn't appear there is a Netlogon directory on the 2003 server. Where are the scripts placed on a W2K3 server?

Thank you for the information.
I guess I should say I am new to Windows 2003 Administration. Have been working with NT for the past 6 years. 2003 is not quite the same as NT, as you know.

Actually, has anyone noticed that there has been a run on First-timers this week?
I wonder if there was a kixtart fire sale going on?
