What file sharing protocols does the AS400 support?

If it uses SMB / CIFS then you will be able to map using the USE command, just as you would with a Windows SMB share.

Many thanks for the quick response, it uses IFS. Not sure of the difference between IFS and CIFS, if there any?

Well, we could speculate all day but the easiest thing would be to try to map a share and see if it works or not

My AS400 man says that it works as a Windows share, so you *should* be able to map with KiXtart. The only issue would be authentication, we don't use it here and he's not sure if you would need to specify an AS400 username and password.

so, taking the easy path.
if you can open the as400 share by browsing to it, or by specifying it on the run box in start menu, like:
\\myasbox\winshare

then you can use the kixtart use command and map to it.

If your AS/400 is named "MYAS400", you will have to type
NET USE \\QMYAS400 *p*a*s*s*w*o*r*d* /USER:QMYAS400\MyUserIdOnMYAS400
Do not forget the "Q" in front of "MYAS400"

Interesting syntax... what does the "Q"'s signify?

Probably the default format of the NetBIOS name for the (virtual) machine. My AS400 guys opinion on the matter is unprintable.

lol.
is he pro or con for AS400?
I mean, does he smell an AS400 insult or does he not think AS400 is the only perfect platform there is?

AFAIK, on AS/400, the Q is typical for IBM things. There are several libraries with a name starting with "Q". The "Administrator" for Windows and the "root" for linux is the "qsecofr" for as/400. When creating libraries and usernames, it is advised not to start with "Q".
