And always will be for XP or above. They have stated for a long time now that they WILL NOT back port it to run on any other previous Windows platforms.

So, Mozilla,IE 6,misc other web browsers, or upgrade to XP/Vista

DL-ed it this week and I have been running it for some days now. It looks a little different then IE6 and earlier but so far it runs great.

IE7 features overview.

I just removed it after using it for about 10 days. My overall rating would be pretty good. I think I liked the multiple home page option the best. The interface, while taking a little time to adjust to, was not bad, and I was happy to see some of the old buttons and links stuff gone. I also didnt like the Fonts they used... just seemed kinda fuzzy. Luckily, I found someone else who didn't like it and they had found the setting on the Advanced tab.

The main reason I removed it was because the built in security. A java app I used locked up. I really didn't like the "Phishing" checker...as that is a sure fire way for MS to track every site you visit. Some pages displayed incorrectly... centering etc.

Overall, not bad...

Funnily enough, myself and 2 collegues didn't like the ClearType smoothing thing that was set as default. Removed that straight away. Does anyone like it ClearType?

What the heck are you still doing on Win2000 there m8? It's slower in all aspects, unless you've got a really old PC.

And XP can be fitted with a look like 2000 theme so it still looks like 2K

@kirkside... Yes that ClearType was exactly what I was talking about being fuzzy. Its just odd looking. I was glad to turn it off.

Well with $500 ATI video card and 21" LCD it seems okay to me. But haven't done a lot of subjective ON/OFF viewing of it to be honest.

I dunno... ClearType looks good both on my 24" LCD and my tiny 14" laptop panel.

installed xp on the system.
slower and most of the hardware doesn't work with this, or there are no working drivers for it.

Did you do an in-OS upgrade there or what? What hardware isn't working?

Slower, probably so if the RAM is below 512MB (many features of XP are faster, but overall still needs min of 512MB imho)

Hardware doesn't work?
1. WAAAAAAYYY too OLD of hardware
2. WAAAAAAAYY too NEW of hardware

Just because XP doesn't know the device or have the device drivers for EVERYTHING doesn't mean there are not drivers.

You can search around for drivers and you can also use a program like this to determine what the YELLOW device is in Device Manager

Craig's PCI Diagnostic software
http://members.datafast.net.au/dft0802/downloads.htm
PCI332.ZIP don't forget to get the latest PCIDEVS.TXT file and replace the one in the zip with the newer one.

You can also DUMB down the Graphical GUI stuff and make it look almost completely like 2000. I hate the new XP full GUI and I revert back to the 2000 style GUI. I've tried other Explorer Shells too but found most of them may look good but have flaws or problems and I end up going back to the original.

lol.
boys boys.
I have been using XP before.
sure I had my xp box look like w2k in a minute after the first boot.

the problem with the drivers are:
1) xp things he knows better. even though in the driver settings I disable the default laptop display, xp denies to shut the fragger down.
2) smc irda ain't working. similar reasons. there is failure on port 2, heck, there is no such port and it should ignore that, just like w2k seemed to do.
3) the WLAN card fires up about 3, 4 mins after xp bootup, guess that's because of the fast boot features. they suck. anyways, as a result, the wlan card works only half the boots.

conclusion, xp sucks.
oh wait, I knew that already.

No problem. If you think it sucks then for you it sucks. Go back to 2000. No one here works for Microsoft and is trying to sell you XP.

no, but ms is.
and even though it sucks, there are so many things I can't do without it, thus, I just need to get over it and start using it.

Just removed IE7 Beta2 cause the cookie handling is Screwed up and it brings itself to the foreground when a pages refreshes itself. Very annoying when your doing some stuff and IE sets itself as the foreground window hiding the app you are working with.
Don’t know if anyone else has had this behavior of IE7 Beta2, but I did and I thinks it is
IE7 looks OK but a little to much weird stuff goes on when it is open.

They got some work to do @ MS.
