Freecom’s new patented USB flash memory card with it’s extra flat, extra light innovative design is only 2 millimetres thick. The world’s slimmest USB flash memory device that fits into any wallet, hardly noticeable amongst existing credit and debit cards.

Seen prices in the range of 29,-- Euro for 256MB up to 179,-- Euro for 2GB. 4GB to be launched mid 2006.

cool sort of, but I'd avoid it.

The "hinge" seems to be a point of failure to me. I like the concept, but I think they would be best to stay in the form of a "key" or smaller.

Best would be to make it small enough that it can be built into other items that you would carry anyway, like the watch, flashlight, cellphone, pocketknife, etc. But focus on capacity and thruput speed.

I have tiny 256mb and 512mb ones that I never carry, in favor of Jumpdrive Lightning 1gb and 2gb, which are the size of cigarette lighters (on my key chain) and most of that was to make the shiny housing cool looking, it could easily have been half that size.

But my needs have for them have grown to the point that I need at least 4 gb. 2.5gb for ghost image, 100mb for bootable WinPE, 500mb of apps/utilities, and the balance for temp storage. It needs to be small enough that it can be attached to something I always carry like my keys. It needs fast throughput, as most usb drives are quite slow. It needs to be narrow to fit into front USB ports through the layers of housing and plastic that HP and Compaq seem to pack on the front of PC cases.

It would be nice if it would tell the time

LOL.

I share your opinion for my own needs.

Our CEO asked us to order a USB stick for him to use. We asked how much data it should be able to hold. He just replied by saying that it should be at least 512MB but most off all it should look cool. He just wanted a gadget to show his friends. It seems functionality is of less importance to some people.

This one looks cool and looks like a credit card but what happens when it’s in you pocket and you sit down? SNAP! No more memory stick I guess.

I prefer sturdy solutions that doesn't break or have loose parts. SanDisk Cruzer Titanium is a good USB memory:

These are the ones I have (1 each)

http://www.lexar.com/jumpdrive/lightning.html

There is a annoying issue with them, in that the cap is held on by a plastic extrusion around the base of the port. That plastic can break off if the device is inserted into a USB port that has a bunch of housing (like the front of many PCs)

BUT they are remarkably hast... and they mount as a HD not as a removable drive
