Hi All,
It seems that many UDF's are simply trivial wrappers for system COM objects. I've searched but I can't find a list of all the system objects and their respective methods, properties and events (not that events are that useful with kix) that are available from Win2k and up. Does anyone know of a definitive reference?
Regards,
Richard

Thanks Jooel for the fast reply. I've had a look at Typelib viewer but there is no documentation on what the methods and properties are. I could spend ages browsing through them not really understanding their purpose. What I was hoping for was a list of objects ranked in groups by subject and methods. Maybe this is wishfull thinking but I thought that there should be documentation of this kind somewhere? I can find good documentation on specific objects if I already know about them, but no information in the (useful) form that I have mentioned.
Regards,
Richard

there is no such index anywhere.
and most of those udf's are made by the typelib browsers.

I don't think trivial is a good word to describe some of these "com" UDF's...

Quote:

Definitions of trivial on the Web:

fiddling: (informal) small and of little importance; "a fiddling sum of money"; "a footling gesture"; "our worries are lilliputian compared with those of countries that are at war"; "a little (or small) matter"; "a dispute over niggling details"; "limited to petty enterprises"; "piffling efforts"; "giving a police officer a free meal may be against the law, but it seems to be a picayune infraction"

obvious and dull; "trivial conversation"; "commonplace prose"

superficial: of little substance or significance; "a few superficial editorial changes"; "only trivial objections"
concerned with trivialities; "a trivial young woman"; "a trivial mind"

insignificant: not large enough to consider or notice

...but if you want a reference, you can give MSDN a go. The volumes of documentation there is a good place to start.

The problem is that the COM automation libraries are (mainly) associated with a bit of installed software, such as Internet Explorer or AutoIT. The documentation for the interfaces will be supplied by the individual software house. Sometimes no documentation is available to the public, because the object is not intended to be used that way. API documentation that is available may be copyrighted or otherwise protected.

This is why it may be easier to start with the typelib viewer to find some interesting interfaces, then search the web for available documentation.

The "COM Automation Resources" sticky topic in this forum has a few links which might be useful.

If you do manage to find a categorised list be sure to come back and let us know!
