Cool!

I say yes to all three. There are several books on the 'runways' found in the desert created by ancient civilizations

Whilst I respect other peoples beliefs, I can't belive that there is a god or higher power.

but you believe that there are some runways?

that said, I'm really sceptic about everything (not just god and aliens, also honest women and all alike)...
and knowledge about some alien life that does not prolong my life expectance is utterly useless.

There are aliens here now. My wife is one. She told me.." give up Earthling, resistance is futile". After that the torment started....

1) Yea, they are out there.

2) Yep, some are ahead and some are behind. They are all along for the ride on the cosmic wave like the rest of us shmucks.

3) Seriously, probably not been here yet (except for my wife and her people of course, the ones that made those airports in the Andes and now run leaf blowers everywhere), but hey will encounter us or the cockroaches we leave behind, sooner or later. I keep telling my half alien kids to give the Vulcans Hell! Let them deal with my kids, they are outta this world anyway.

Funny thought, we could probably fight off "The Borg" with current technology by letting them assimilate the US federal gummint first, same difference as putting them to sleep and starting an auto-destruct. I'd be their fault for going where no Borg should've gone before.

Oops, gotta go. There's a truck full of pods being delivered to "Central Services".....

mole.... wishing he were deeeper in his mole hole. Or am I Buttle or Tuttle or whatever....

Les, why should Earth be the only planet in the universe with life on it?

or, as so unlikely event has occured that midst totally dead universe, there is planet full of plant and animal life, it's yet more unlikely that there is another such place.

What do we really know about the universum? I say almost nothing. We have material and pictures of some planets in our solar system but that's all.

While the surface has only been "scratched", there is actually quite a bit we have learned from outside of the solar system. Spectroscopic analysis reveals the composition of stars through emmission spectra and the composition of clouds in space through absorption spectra. The motion can be deduced by observing the Doppler shift of these lines and observing the proper motion relative to other points. There is also a somtimes controversial distance modulus based upon luminosity, however "reddening" of this light has been premised to introduce significant error. Still, considering all we have is data about the interaction with electromantecic radiation, we have been able to learn quite a bit beyond the solar system. Spectral analysis is a common technique in Earth-bound laboratories, so consider space a big spectrophotometer. But then we really are nothing but a small part in a big experiment anyway, eh?

The problem with how we try to deduce if there is extraterrestrial life is that we use ourselves as the point of comparison. Why does one assume that oxygen would be required for life and why does one assume radio waves for communication?

I'm one of those that hold the universe is finite but undefined. The edge of the universe in that model is constantly changing, so its hard to put your finger on it. Sort of like the old example of a fractal... trying to measure the shoreline of an island as wave action constantly rearranges the sand on the beach, only the universe appears to be expanding at this time based upon the Doppler shifts of distant objects, so its rearranging itself outward.

Also I think its quite possible to consider the edge of the universe from both sides, inside and out, as the same surface like that of a Kline bottle, the inside surface is twisted through a higher dimension so its actually the outside surface. So is it also fluctuating in an inward direction when looked at from the other side if its going outward from this side?

As for finding the edge, the distance there from here would be equal to the age of the universe which depending upon the model used (the arguments over the distance modulus come in here), current theories predict between 10 and 20 billion years (light years), or at least the last time I checked. 25 years ago when I was in college we used to laughingly refer to a "Sagan unit" as a billion of something.

So don't know if that means we found the side of the dish, but sure enough there is plenty for the cosmologists to argue over about when and if we can. Its remarkable that the mind can get itself wrapped around such a concept and that were it not for other things we've done with our minds to get us to the point of such luxury, we'd be occupied with important stuff such as looking for food or avoiding becoming food.

As for the alien factor in all of this, I think the last sentence in the paragraph above is where monolith appears...

Don't think oxygen is required at all, but its what we have the most experience at working with though life forms not requiring oxygen are known.

As for radio, that isn't requiste either, but I think it helps us get some small advantage for now. Electromagnetic radiation, which includes radio, is throughout the parts of the universe we have been able to survey, thats how we've surveyed most of it. Since we do use electromagnetic radiation to examine and communicate it makes reasonable sense that we are going to be best at it and therefore have the most likely chance of finding coherent signals indicative of "life" using that technique. We are biased to being able to communicate with other life forms, if they exist, using techniques we are familiar with.
