Always wanted to post a poll. Rad's latest post got me to wondering what tech types think of the following three questions ...

Yes, probably, highly doubtful, and no way... sounds too much like Battlestar Galactica.

I've done some leisure study on the consistency of the universe and what it takes to sustain life on our planet.
(Speaking from a creationist perspective) The odds are unfathomable that this is a chance happening when you calculate the variables. In my opinion, God being the all powerful creator of the universe, his one word that spoke us into existence could have created such unimaginable vastness. His attention to us, could have created a single point of focus for his love in all that vastness, which is the earth. .... Something to think about... In my opinion, I'm not going to presume that God can't focus on one pinpoint in all His creation. To me, learning about how vast the universe is makes me appreciate how much God cares and loves us, since his focus is on our lives. In short, The vastness of the universe doesn't distract our Creator from focusing on is.
Take it or leave it, those are my thoughts.

Those thoughts are fine... the inverse of that argument, is that in an infinite universe and and omnipotent creator, it is kind of presumptuous of US to believe that EVERYTHING is just for our benefit.
Of course, since Mankind's recorded history is no more than 10,000 years or so (call it 20,000 for arguments sake) and it is a real coin toss to say we'll still be here in another 10,000 years, that in a universe where distances are measured in 100's and MUCH more years at light speed. Tiny piece of human time on Earth is nothing compared to the times the rest of the universe has been out there.
God would have to be Infinitely patient as well.

I love my wife...
Yesterday when I mentioned to her the story from Space.com about the new planet they found, she asked me if it was "Class M"

Good point, although, for me, it comes down to perspective. I guess, in my perspective, you can look at the universe like a planter's field, the earth as the seed. At some point, the seed will have been a fruitful tree, but will no longer bare anything useful, the field will be tilled up because it's too hard and crusty for anything useful to grow in it.... and, the way I see it, that's when the fun begins!!
I'd love to address some of the topics raised on this thread, but that's not for this forum so I'll just end my responses here.

BTW, when I say Mankind's recorded history... I mean of Human Beings... I firmly realize the millions of years of dinosaurs that preceeded us.
The 20,000 years, is the period of time I'd think that aliens would have to find us and consider us 'sentient life' However, considering some of the helpdesk calls I get, that is a different topic for discussion...
