yeah Jooel !
Basically, i am trying to check the status of the ERRORLOG file in SQL server to check the status of the service, but checking the ERRORLOG file does NOT help. since it is always locked, i have to copy it to some other file & then read it to check for occurrence of statements like (RECOVERY COMPLETE, SQL AGENT STARTED etc.)

is there any way available to check the status of service from SERVICE CONTROL MANAGER?

yes, like I asked, that level of information is available.
but the level you are wishing to see and what log file gives you, is not available via service control.

as example:
http://www.kixtart.org/UDF/UDF_lister.php?what=post&code=82457

does provide the current state of the service.

First of all, there are a couple of UDFs that check service status.

Secondly, WINMGMTS is a mandatory prefix for a WMI moniker in order to interact with WMI, itself it is not a function.
