I use a reasonably cheap product called Audit Wizard http:\\www.auditwizard.com The license for an entire site is only around $600

I .bat file calls the .exe from a shared network location, audits Hardware/Software etc.. is fast and easy to setup. Saved me a lot of time and hassle.
