In our enterprise we add a security group to the local admin group of a workstation during the imaging process. I'm working with INGROUP and I want to say "if you're an administrator on the local machine do yada yada". In my situation, the users gain admin access through membership to the AD group we add to the desktop admininstrator group.

INGROUP (as I'm sure you guys know) won't return the user as a local admin if they are a inheriting those rights by virtue of another group.
I know there are a billion and 1 ways to work around this but what do you suggest the best solution is?

I do have a VB function from the legacy logon script but I can't convert it to kix because I woke up stupid this morning:P

ingroup() does work just fine with nested groups.

Who says InGroup() will not work?

arrrrg....thank you for your time and sorry to have wasted it, you are entirely correct (not that you need me to tell you that). The problem was between keyboard and chair as I was checking the wrong security group. I was missing a "!" as there is one group with that and one group with out.

time for more coffee.

we have a royal mess on our hands because our enterprise AD is a wreck. we have group 1 a member of group 2 a member of group 1. We have groups that are named the same minus the aforementioned "!"....who wants to come fix my AD for me?
