Bryce(if you are still where you can check the boards), Are you going to try to try to stick it out there, or move on?
It looks like the changed path still places you right on the outer skirts of it, though its punch looks like it will be significantly diminished.

I have moved about 70miles inland, vs the 30ish of my house. As of right now, we will be seeing cat 2 or so winds, bad but not enough to run from.
I al alread starting to see the wind kick up, and the clouds are starting to cover the sky .
got to plug in and charge the laptop.... get in one last good charge.

Best of Luck.
Hope everything goes well and that the communications infrastructure is still there to allow an update when this has passed through.

Quote:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hurricane Rita weakened to a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 125 miles per hour, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Friday afternoon. The NHC said further slow weakening is possible before landfall, but stressed the storm would still come ashore as a dangerous hurricane. It projected Rita would continue moving northwestward at nearly 10 mph for the next 24 hours, which would put the core of the storm over the coasts of southwestern Louisiana and upper Texas early Saturday. At 2 p.m. EDT (1800 GMT), the center of the storm was located about 190 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas, and about 175 miles southeast of Port Arthur, Texas. All of the major weather models show Rita hitting the Gulf Coast near the Texas-Louisiana border. The NHC will issue an advisory at 5 p.m.

still got power, and net connection. The wind/rain is starting to get bad.
So far, it looks like it is going to miss Houston, passing us on the East side but about 60 miles or so. They are saying 2mil people have fled the houston coastal areas. many were stuck in a traffic jam that lasted 24+ hours. and now it looks like that many may have fled and there is now no reason for them too. Better safe than sorry i say.
I am at my dad's, we got 9 people here, and 8 pets over the next 4 hours the storm should be making landfall, and we may lose power/water.
So this is it, crunch time.
ps, in the time it took me to write this, the wind has picked up even more.
pss... yikes just had a treelimb bounce off of the roof!!!

and i am back!!
whew!! lost power about an hour after my last post!
I am back at my house, a few missing roof tiles, some trash in the yard, but everything is ok, hell i still have power, unlike my father's house where i went to ride out the storm
Basicly Houston got lucky on this one.
Wed night, my girlfriend was going to take shelter at my place, since she lived even closer to the coast than I do.
Thursday morning, i wake up, and take a look at the track of Rita, it was now a cat 5 and 48 hours away. the track was placing it right up galveston bay. Cat5, comming right at me, it was time to leave, pack up GF, dogs, and anything i need to "live", also grabbed my server .
Over the next 24 hours the track jumped from 70 miles to the west to 70 miles to the east, to finaly settle on some place to the east of us.
Basicly, Houston got very lucky that Rita stalled to a cat 3 and moved off to the east, in the last 24 hours.
Things to note, they are saying that 2.75 million people have fled the coastal area, and they did it in 78 hours.
