It's great but has a serious problem with starting up from a login script, when loggin in on a win95 workstation. I'm working with the company trying to solve it.

I'll accept and try out any other alternative HW/SW inventory software that runs on the LAN but can be controlled from any workstation by an administrator.

You want to have a comparison between LANauditor and KiXtart for hard- and
software inventory.
We doesn't know the LANauditor package also, but when we compare KiXtart
capabilities with other inventory software we can create a list of

  pieces of software before we can make an inventory.

  - you need to program it.

  - you doesn't need to program it, but to configure it in the right way can
  be hard and can also influence your client and server configuration in
  a bad way.
  
• disadvantages of software package
  - usage of such software can be very expensive. mostly is the price related.
  to the number of clients.
  - will the software return the information you want to have. can it easily be
  extend with new information issues.
  - most software - we know - doesn't have the capability to build a historical
  list.
  

It's very easy to set up in a logon script and gives you software installed amoung many other things.
