Our company has others looking into a simple under-the-desk button system for alerting purposes. I was tasked with looking into the feasibility of using computer software to possibly solve the problem.

You're right, the mitigating factors are confusion with using software during an emergency situation and location to the emergency. The location where this software would be used is a 3000 square foot house that has been converted into a multi-department office building. Everyone is in very close proximity to one another, but there are 2 stories and many little rooms, so line-of-site is not available if there is a problem in another department. Sure, if there was a scream everyone in the building would hear it. Three of the departments serve the public and that is where the concern over a panic button has arisen.

That being said, I'm thinking KiX is a feasible method for generating an alert message throughout the building, but I don't know how practicle it would be when implemented as a "user" tool.

Any other thoughts?
