Well you don't say what controller you have or even what server so difficult to determine the age of the systm.
If you have one with a 5i or better controller then adding and expanding the drive should be fine.
1. Backup the system
2. Make sure you update the FIRMWARE for the Server in question first
3. Update the CONTROLLER firmware and drivers
4. Add the drive
5. Diskpart the drive
If the drives are Dynamic instead of Basic then there are posts where expanding did not work and the user lost data and had to do a restore of the data.
