I have a quick question for the regulars...

What is your favorite KiXtart editor? I'm using PSPad and am pretty happy with it. I also downloaded KiXtarter, but haven't used it as much as PSPad.

Ja, I do spark up ASE for the BIG stuff, but nothing beats the speed of opening Notepad and it is on every PC I ever use.

Thats what I like about notepad - never get flustard working on other windows boxes - its always the same olde notepad and it always works. I'm sure there's a clever anology to why we settle for the "common demoninator" editor - but I can't think of one.

I'm a big ASE fan myself, but I might be a little biased.

Because you lost your copy of EDLIN

Notepad... type away for a bit, oh crap CTRL-Z WTF I only wanted to undo that last line, not the last 5 lines I typed...

Yeah, notepad is good for about 10 lines or less, then your just being hard headed.

For more on Editors please take a look here.

Yeah ASE is a pretty good editor too.

Me thinks you exaggerate. Most of my scripts are 100 lines or less.

Any editor that supports syntax highlighting.
Easy to spot mismatching Quotation which was the most common cause for my scritps to fail
I prefer UltraEdit as well as Howard

ASE is definitely the best in my opinion. I like to distribute my programs as executables that aren't reliant on utilities or script engines that have to be provided separately. I do wish however they would provide the capability to have syntax highlighting that takes into account the whole script and not each individual line on its own. It makes it difficult in some cases to spot the kind errors that Jochen talks of.

I use Vim for all program / script / and text file editing.

I use this because it is ported to every operating system that I program on, so I get a common editor. It also supports every language I program in, as well as recognising just about every config file that I have to deal with - don't underestimate the usefulness of syntax highlighting in config files.

It's without a doubt the best programmers editor I've ever used, but it has a high learning curve because of all the features. This means it may not be suitable for starters, especially of you're only going to edit simple scripts.

notepad.
I tried kixtarter ones, too many bugs.
tried ASE many times, some bugs and way too heavy.

notepad is the only editor that is simple and always there and always delivers.

Started with ConTEXT, moved to PSPad about 6 months ago b/c ConTEXT development is dead. I like PSPad a lot, but we'll probably be buying UltraEdit shortly.
