Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to automate a user logging on to a Windows 2000 (SP2) workstation for the first time and have it automatically add them to either the Power Users Group or the Users Group. I haven't decided which group I want them in yet.

Can Kixtart check and automatically add user the currently logged in user to the Power User or the User Groups on the workstation?

I saw somewhere on Google where someone said this can be done with Group Policy, but after looking there, I could not find a way to do it.

All servers are Win2k Adv Server SP2, all workstations are Win2k Pro SP2.

Your help with this is very much appreciated.

If you want to use kix4.0....

this UDF will do it.

GroupAdd

you can either run it from an admin computer

groupadd("@domain/<remotecomputer>","power users", @domain\<userid to add> )

or via a logon script (this requires a admin password in the script, this makes for bad security)

groupadd("@domain/@wksta","power users", @domain\@userid, "<admin>|<Password>")

Thanks Bryce, but I'm using ver 3.63. Does GroupAdd only work in ver 4?

Dear,

The code works only for kixtart 4.0 release. Bryce is using the new
capabilities of that release.
You can run both kixtart releases at the same time. Many members are
using .k2k as file extension for kixtart 4.0 scripts.
greetings.

Thanks for the info...

Where can I download ver 4.0. I don't see it on the download page.

I don't want to run beta code in production.

Dear,

You can find it also on our site http://home.wanadoo.nl/scripting .
The files are:
- kix400update-rc1.exe
(= replace kix32.exe + DLLs on your clients)

- kix400registry-rc1.exe
(= kix400update + create file associations keys with .kix, .k2k, .scr)

- kix400rc1.zip
(= complete kixtart2001 RC1 release)
This RC1 release isn't for us beta code. The last part of the job was to update
the documentation of it.
greetings.
