Hi,

I want to be able to apply a particular group permission to my user directories that are hidden shares, I have searched the board and there are a couple of topics but no solution. Can anyone help?

Cheers

Steve.

Any reason you cannot use XCACLS?

Is this a user forum for MS or Kix? Every damn thread I read has either "use cacls" or "search the forum" as an answer. I'm getting awful tired of searching.

What's your point? This is obviously a KiX board but there is nothing built into KiX to affect perms so the answer is to use external utils, MS or other.

Sorry to bag on you Udaloy but this is an OLD post and should not have been posted to as the author may or may not be around anymore.

Please start your own discussion and reference this one if needed.

To your point I think Les answered it. KiXtart has no native method of modifying any permissions. The closest thing I can think of would be having KiXart run a COM method to change permissons and there is are discussions of using WMI to do such.

Thanks

Huh? Three weeks is old? Maybe someone needs to update me on the idea behind having thread subjects. I never knew they had to have an author that was still a member. What does that matter? This is a thread dealing with an issue that I'm having trouble with, and I'm sure, no matter how old this thread gets, someone else will have this problem. When I use the search function of the website, I enter topics, not author names. I don't care how old it is, or if the author is 'around' or even dead, just so long as the answer is there.

Having said that, thank you NTDOC for actually putting a full sentence together for me. Previous of your post, no one actually said that there is no way for Kix to change permissions. If the all-knowing would have posted that in an 'old' thread, it would have saved me an hour of useless searching. That was the point Les.

Everyone gets chastised for not searching, but when I find a thread dealing exactly with my topic, the "answer" is likely not an answer. It's a moderator picking on someone for not searching or not posting properly. I suppose it's because you've answered the same question in the past, which I can sympathize with, but it runs afoul of your not wanting people to post to an "old" thread. I guess from now on, I'll search starting with the oldest threads first. Sorry to carry on, but this has bothered me for a while. I'm not picking on anyone in particular, just the overall experience here. I belong to other websites, and their search engine usually turns up good results because threads are based on topic only, not time. Does that make sense?

Yep, you're right on that one. Being an American, I read it as December 4th, not April 12th, eh? My thoughts still stand as to age though. What's the difference? It's the information we want, not the author, eh?

It is still considered hijaaking here. There is no redeeming value it Steven's original topic that would warrant you recycling it vs. starting your own. Please refer to our board etiquette FAQ. Not all boards have the same standard of conduct.

Please do delete my entries, as we are way off topic, which is true hijacking.

The "all-knowing" suggested a solution for someone who had a problem, and which they were happy with.

I'm very sorry that this response does not meet with your expectations and that I didn't have the foresight to see into the future and fully answer any query that you had not yet voiced - witchiness only runs in the female line in my family.

I'm also sorry for the state of the World economy, the youthfulness of the police force and the slight bilious feeling you will experience on waking next Tuesday (but at least you are pre-warned )
