FYI

Ran KIX32.EXE (4.50.0.0 build 192) and WKIX32.EXE (4.50.0.0 build 192) against our production script and it appears to have ran correctly. No errors, all logging was reported/updated correctly.

Script details:

  • Commands: 1,261
    Functions: 799
    Macros: 550
    Lines: 2,788

Will start looking at other new features and report back findings later.

Using the /t switch for pre-tokenizing appears to use a more advanced obfuscation method then the previous version.

In larger scripts UltraEdit opens it as a binary file. In previous versions it opened it as an ASCII file.

Production script of 122K file size went down to 79K and ran properly. Execution time was the same though.
9.15 seconds for Tokenized and 9.0 seconds for normal.

I still think the only difference is removing comments.

Hmm.. That is interesting.. EditPad shows for the tokenized files:
Beta 1 as "Mixed (Unix)" or
Hex 0A or Line Feed
Beta 2 as "Mixed (Mac)" or
Hex 0D or Carriage Return

But, since it is "Mixed", that would indicate to me that there are other things going there. So, straight 0D0A concept is not totally there.

For those that might have missed it (couple new switches that don't appear to be in the readme.txt yet either)

Quote:

KiXtart 2010 4.50 Beta 2a Release / Copyright Ruud van Velsen 2005
Microsoft Windows (logon) script processor.

Note: KiXtart is CareWare, please consult the manual for full details
on distribution and licensing.

Usage :

KIX32 [script1] [...] [$var=123] [/f[:yyyy/mm/dd]] [/r:irel] [/u:password] [/d] [/t]

Options:
/d = enable debug mode

/r = KXRPC search order (see manual for details)
/u = password to unlock a password protected script
/t = tokenize scripts (see manual for details)

What the heck is this one:
Quote:

/u = password to unlock a password protected script

And where is the corresponding /l (lock) parameter or how are we going to password-protect the script? Or is that the hidden un-tokenization with Ruud having some kind of master key/password?

Not sure... I've been playing with it for a while now but so far can't seem to get it to do anything.

KIX32.EXE myscript.kix /P:TEST
KIX32.EXE myscript.kix /T
KIX32.EXE myscript.kx /U:TEST

KIX32.EXE myscript.kix /T /L:TEST

Some other combinations... but don't see how it works or what it does yet.
