LittleED LittleED Fresh Scripter Registered: 2005-02-04 Posts: 6	Is it possible to write a script with KiXtart to redirect a customer to a thank you page after they fill out a web form and click the submit button? I know most people use CGI, but I don't know how to write CGI. I've looked for scripts on the web, but I don't understand them enough to know what info needs to be changed or what the correct info should be. Little E

The lack of default file association, the lack of full STDout support, the possible absence of the KiX32.exe, etc... are just a start, but hey, some people are gluttens for self-mutilation and can work magic. _________________________ Give a man a fish and he will be back for more. Richard H. Richard H. Administrator Registered: 2000-01-24 Posts: 4946 Loc: Leatherhead, Surrey, UK	CGI is not a language. CGI is a protocol for executing a script or program, and passing data to it. Any programming language which supports raw input and output streams can be a CGI. KiXtart can be used for CGI but there are some issues which mean that it is tricky. As you are new to this, KiXtart is not a good solution for you. Search the board for previous discussions about using KiXtart as a CGI. You also clearly do not understand the process of submitting form data. When you submit a form the target is a CGI - you need to run a task at the server to process the form data. This same process will display the thank-you page, or issue a browser redirect to a thank-you page. The web server you are writing the pages for will already have a preferred CGI to handle forms and the like, so you should use that rather than trying to use KiXtart. As you are at an early stage I recommend you put a bit of time into learning one of the mainstream CGIs. If you have a choice I'd recommend PHP first as it is highly portable and very widely used. ASP is a good second choice if you don't mind limiting yourself to Microsofts IIS. PERL should be avoided. It is a great language and used quite a lot in CGI but is devilishly hard for beginners to pick up.

I have checked into PHP though I have yet to find out what it stands for. I've never heard of it before your message. I do have my form set up so it will send the information from the form to my email address, but after it sends it, I was wanting the thank you pape to be displayed. As it is right now after the customer clicks the submit button, the screen doesn't change and the customer thinks that the information was never sent, when actually it was. As for my ISP - I've asked them if they have any scripts that I could use and they said that all they have is some links to websites that have scripts. So I check those sites out, but again, I don't know what information goes where. It would be nice to find a site that has the information explained so well that even someone like me could understand it. I have heard of ASP though. When I was in my VB class I ask my teacher about ASP, but she said that she wasn't going to be teaching any of that. I guess that's another program I'll have to learn on my own. I had a hard time getting her to teach me VB even though that was what I paid her for. I wish I could've learned more, but all she was interested in doing was handing out assignments. She made learning VB very hard. Little E

I think it's awesome that there is such a thing called tutorial. They can be very helpful to people like me that want to learn, but are having a hard time finding someone to teach them. Jens - could you give me more information about this IIS-based and ASP-emulator stuff? I'm confused as to what your talking about. In the mean time, I'll look on the web to see if I can find out what they are. Little E
