Is there a way to use the ADDPRINTERCONNECTION in KIX32 and not have it load the drivers off the machine you are adding it from??? Is there any KIX support for SAMBA printers??
what happens if the printer is a SAMBA printer it fails with error 1797 -- trying to pull the driver from the LINUX box --- thanks in advance

I do not do much with printers. What is the default behavior of windows if you manually add the printer? I was under the impression that Windows always ties to load a driver from the server if one is not local.

Its normal. Meaning it goes through the winzard and asks us to pick a driver. When I use this AddPrinterConnection and the printer is on a Microsoft Workstation it works fine from a Micrsoft Server. The printer is on a Linux box running SAMBA. Funny thing is a can do a net use to the printer on the Linux box and other KIX32 functions work..

thanks in advance...

The workstation needs to get the printer drivers from somewhere. IIRC, SAMBA can be set up so that it does provide printer drivers. See the SAMBA and cUPS documentation.

thanks -- actually its a Terminal Server we need to have add the drivers to. A remote user running linux comes into a RDP session on the Terminal Server. From doing some research there is no RDP client for Linux that provides the ability to print back to the local client. There is but they are expensive. What I was going to try to do is when th user with Linux comes in through RDP, i was doing to have it hit a KIX script with the ADDPRINTERCONNECTION. This printer would then be added to the Terminal Server. It works if the UNC name in the AddPrinterFuntion is a Microsoft client or server. Maybe I am missing the boat on this all together but its a consulting gig I was asked to look in to. Any suggestions are appreciated. Bill Hall
