Are any of you using a commercial patch management solution? If so, what is it and I'd like your opinions.

Thanks,

We are running SUS by MS for some time now and works great.

I'm soooo waiting for WUS. All other patch mgmt for MS products will be obsolete with it I hope. Best of all, it's gonna be free. To be released in Q2.

One could also use Microsoft SMS for patch management (and more).

Yes, one could (we do) but managing it and reporting on it is so difficult with SMS compared to a product like Altiris that it's not even funny. We spend countless hours attempting to do the same task that other groups in our company spend very few hours doing with Altiris.

I was on a TechNet workshop a few months ago where an early WUS beta was demo'd. I was very impressed at the stage of development it was then already.

I've installed the beta and tried it out on some test servers. How does WUS differ from SUS?

And next in that line of products will be LUS (Linux Update Services). This fine addition to the *US line of products will remotely wipe Linux off any corporate computer and install a proper copy of Windows XP SP2.
