I was thinking of getting a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54GS) to replace my current D-Link router/switch and the Linksys Wireless Game Adapter (WGA54G) for my son's Xbox this year. But I also have another computer that is not currently on my wired home network. So I was wondering if I could move the D-Link upstairs to one of the Kid's bedroom, run Cat5 to each room through the ajoining wall, and use the Linksys Wireless Game Adapter (WGA54G) as a wireless bridge to connect both rooms to the wireless net. This would save me from buying a wireless nic for my daughters computer.
Any thoughts or experience with this products?

I have that router, and I have ordered the same game adapter
it sounds feasible, but seems to be more trouble than it is worth. A usb wireless adapter is only $40 or so and a PCI one is cheaper than that

Router works a treat! I bought it from Fry's and have been happy with it.

Thenks for the feedback.
I am trying to spend as little as possible and utilize all my existing hardware. I like the speed of my wired network and am not sure that I can mentally justify ading wireless for Xbox and one computer.

just remember the deal with b/g routers.
any b devices will blow the speed for all g devices... Make it all g or get another b router
there are some new n types coming out soon, that are apparently using 4 b/g radios in parallel... however the spec isn't set in stone yet, so if you get one, be sure that all n devices are the same brand

Not the fastest thing on Earth, but should be quite easy to use and install and should suffice for the Xbox I'd think.

Doc, Thanks for the link to Netgear... I was stumbling with a wireless network today... and was about to pull my hair out, when I remembered this thread. I also found this: 54 Mbps - Wall plugged Wireless Range Extender Kit. I just ordered one of each. I'll cross my fingers and pass on the results once I hook them up.

In the event someone is interested... these Netgear devices are sweet. Since my last post, I set these up for two different people. Amazingly simple. Just log into the Web interface, change the SSID, and if necessary the IP and security settings... and presto... Ethernet over Electricity.
My only concern for these devices is the requirement to plug them directly to the outlet, no powerstrips or UPSs. I'm afraid one surge and they are toast.

Thanks for the info. I canned the wireless idea this Christmas, but may lookinto it in the future. At least I now know from a reputable source that device works.
