Hi all,

Sorry for such a lame question. I’m trying to map the home directory of each user to H: but with no success. I’m using the following code to achieve this:

Use H: “\\PDC\staff\”+ @usersid

Although, this sort of works, it only maps H: to the following folder \\PDC\staff and not to the user’s folder (i.e. \\PDC\staff\%USERNAME%).

I say, I’m sorry for such a lame question but I’m new to Kixtart.

Many Thanks

The Big Yin

It appears you are trying to map a nested drive, which is not supported in W9x. Support for nested drives did not start until Windows 2000.

Hello Big Yin and Welcome to the board.

This is a LONG post, but if you take the time to read it through it will explain in detail the issue you're having.

Al_Po is correct in that basically you need to have each one of your user directories shared. Typically this is done with a hidden share, which also explained in detail in this posting.

PLEASE HELP WITH MAPPING HOME DIRECTORY

Cheers NTDOC. It made for some interesting reading. And now i finaly understand that i have to Share the users Home Dir before i can get Win9x to map to it.

Again, many thanks.

Also, i'm not sure if it's a typo or not but this

Code:

Use H: "\\PDC\staff\"+ @usersid

should be

Code:

Use H: "\\PDC\staff\"+ @userid

And those curly quotes of yours (”) are very bad, do not use them

You know, this would be a perfect time to tell management that Wintendos are no longer supported!

How do you expect them to go away if you keep supporting them?
