Getting the hang of it

Hi all,

I have a basic call "c:\.....iexplore.exe" command that opens up IE when users login to the network, however the netlogon script box stays until I close Internet Explorer. Is there a way to call it and let the netlogon script window disappear ie load iexplore into a new process - in linux you would use the "script.sh &" command to do this. Any ideas please?

Cheers,
Jon

On second thoughts I could probably use shell in kix. I'll give it a try.

Perhaps using the EXIT command at the bottom of your batch file.

Please post your current batch file.

Not that if you don't have any Windows 9x clients to support you don't need to use a batch file to launch KiXtart for NT/2000/XP/2003 clients, and you can perform any tasks your doing in the batch from within KiXtart.

I think instead of ...

call "c:\.....iexplore.exe"

you want ...

start "c:\.....iexplore.exe"

in your batch. That will allow iexplore.exe to run and not hold up the batch from continuing on. It sounds like the batch is waiting for the user to close IE.

Okay
I'm using

shell "c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe"

in a kix script. it waits until I close the IE window and then continue on with the netlogon script.

I was going to suggest this:

run "%comspec% /c start www.kixtart.org"

See the manual or the FAQ for the difference between SHELL and RUN.

in kixtart script the easiest way would be:
run 'explorer "www.kixtart.org"'

shawn, explorer has nothing to do with internet explorer.
study your WKSTA before you quess.
basta!

back to the facts, just use:
run 'explorer "http:\\whatever_addy.com"'

and windows will launch the address in your DEFAULT web browser.

like said and you didn't listen.
it opens default web browser.
you should fix your system and not blame windows if your settings are wrong.
