Hi,

Please help I am desperate and have tried various things such as following suggestions from the event log etc. but to no avail. i'm gettting the following message when triying to log onto clients (w2k server /w2k client)

when they try to login to the domain it says" there is a time difference between the client and server" In addition when trying to manaually force servers to synch get the following message "RPC is too busy to complete operation". It seems as if the time between the servers in askew but I cant find much useful advice on net.

Could anyone help? Really is causing big problems at my school. I have always used 'net time \\[servername] /y to time synch and never caused prob until yesterday..

Thanks

Steve W.

Check the AM/PM settings on the client PCs. I once had a pc that for whatever reason would not synchronize with the time server. Once I noticed that the AM/PM was incorrect the synchronization started working again.

I had one today where the date was off by one day and it stopped me from getting on the network.

I have had that message in the past and found the problem lies with the Time zone. Make sure all the clients or DC's are in the correct time zone

A properly configured Active Directory implementation should keep all Win2k/XP clients in sync without need for the NET command.

However, that would imply that the time servers/clients are set up correctly and configures. I suspect this is not the case as it's not out-of-the-box functionality.

Reality check... AD does not come configured "in a box" hence the reason I said properly configured. In AD, users should never have the permission to change the system time with the NET command.

Yup, that's why elevated privileges are required in the first place. Unfortunately, I think there are more improperly configured AD installations out there than properly configured ones because Microsoft creates the impression that AD is easy to install via a couple of wizards. Unfortunately, AD is not just like an NT4 domain, just better.
