when using ingroup ("west") i can get a return because it is in the users folder in ad. but say i want to us ingroup ("north") which is hidden in an ou "outbuilding\users" how can i read the group membership from north?

What OU the group is in should have no bearing on the KiX InGroup() function unless you over-tighten security in which case this is not a KiX issue but rather an MCSE one. This forum is limited to KiX issues.

Well Duh... No, he is asking how InGroup() works if the group is in another OU. His problem is prolly with the group cache.

I was able to pull information using ingroup on my test domain but not production. So it must be something ooutside of kixtart

As I mentioned, it is either an issue with permissions or the group cache. Try flushing the cache with the -F switch or by deleting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KiXtart\TokenCache key.
