I cannot get ingroup to work and have narrwoed it down to a permissions issue. A regular "Domain User" account cannot lookup group membership while a domain admin can. This is on a Win2k mixed mode domain with a Win2k client. This is very frustrating. Any ideas?

Hello.

I think you are in Active Directory Domain.
In this case, if I'm right, I think the ingroup doesn't work.

Look for AD problems in the "search" section of this forum.

Best regards.

Thanks for the info.. I still don't understand this though. I can run it under a domain admin account but not a regular user account so it does work but seems to needing some rights somewhere. I also tried to get group memberships via WSH and a script and had the same exact results - worked under admin but not under a domain user account. Puzzling.

LLigetfa - Thanks for the effort. I thought you were on to something there. Unfortunately this didn't fix my problem. I have tested in other similar domains and don't have this problem so it seems to be more of a domain/permissions issue rather than a Kixstart problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Question -

I can pipe group membership out to a text file with the whoami utility. Can someone suggest an easy was to parse a text file for a string? It's an ass backwards way of doing ingroup.. I'm just trying anything at this point.

I'm guessing this is a temporary work-around. Post the output along with what you need out of it and we'll take a stab at it.

There are other ResKit utils like IfMember you could look at. I believe they return an @error value.

quote:

IfMember Example
These lines of code illustrate the use of IfMember with IF ERRORLEVEL in a batch file:

ifmember Administrators

if not errorlevel 1 exit

REM the rest of this batch file will only be run if the user is a member of the Administrators group.

I've got it working.

Using Kix 3.63 I had no luck. Changing my USE command syntax and using the 2001, Beta 3 version I've gotten it working the way I want. FYI - both versions did work with a domain dfs root mapping to a fake root user directory or group directory. Thanks for your help.
