It does depend on the employment contract or employee hadnbook. However, in general anything developed on company time or with company equipment is the property of the company. This includes source code that is then compiled. The company not only owns the compiled product but also the source code. Inventions are handled slightly different, the normal procedure is that the inventors assign the patent to a company, however, AfAIK, the company itself cannot be an inventor.
