How can I tell the difference between outlook express 6.0, 5.5, and 5.0 by looking at a file or registry? I guess what I'm needing is the version number of 5.5 and 5.0

I've searched for "outlook express" and "version" on the board but didn't find what I needed. I've queried the file at C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msinm.exe, I've also looked at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Version Info, the "Current" value. They both say 6.0.2800.1123. Is it safe to say that 5.5 versions will say 5.5.xxxx.xxxx and 5.0 will say 5.0.xxxx.xxx? If this is so I can use an
Code:

If Instr($OutlookVersion,"6.0")<>0

Our servers are all updated to 6.0, but I'm writing a script to query the verion on the client machine and have never queried for outlook express..

I only need the version info, I can write the script easily...

Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess what I'm looking for is the version number of the following: This is for the MS04-013 patch.

Microsoft Outlook Express 5.5 SP2
Microsoft Outlook Express 6 (I think this is 6.0.2800.1123)
Microsoft Outlook Express 6 SP1

Thanks..

If you have pc that you know have the above versions on, it might be an idea to try the getfilesize, they all should have diffrent sizes, so you shouldnt encounter too many problems. Just what i would do

Verifying Update Installation

To verify the files that this security update has installed, use one of the following methods:

• Confirm that Q837009 appears in the Update Versions field in the About Internet Explorer dialog box. You cannot use this method on Windows Server 2003 or on Windows XP 64-Bit Edition, Version 2003 because the package does not update the Update Versions field for these versions of Windows.

• Compare the versions of the updated files on your computer with the files that are listed in the "File Information" section in this bulletin.

• Confirm that the following registry entries exist:

• For Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP 64-Bit Edition, Version 2003, confirm that the Installed DWORD value that has a data value of 1 appears in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix\KB837009

• For all other versions of Windows, confirm that the IsInstalled DWORD value that has a data value of 1 appears in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{ 2cc9d512-6db6-4f1c-8979-9a41fae88de0}

Thanks for the posts.

Azzershaw,
I was trying to use the If Instr($OutlookExpressVersion,"6.0.") <> 0, that's why it'd be easier to look at the version.

Radimus, I already have the part coded that will check to see if the patch is already installed, if that's what you meant by your post

Thanks..
