I've just finished setting up a audio/video/graphics workstation which wil be used to process A/V/Is from a variety of sources and which has a flatbed scanner and a slidescanner connected to it permanently. The workstation is running Windows XP in order to take advantage of Pentium 4 HyperThreading technology.

The bad news is that Windows XP does not support more than one scanner at a time, thus even conecting a digital (video) camera via USB will fail if the digital (video) camera requires the USBSCAN.SYS driver. This is actually documented in MSKB234756 You Cannot Simultaneously Use Multiple USB Scanners in Windows XP. Windows 2000 does not seem to suffer from this restriction.
