With NT4 nearing end-of-life, now would be a good time to rebuild it. There is obviously something wrong with the box. Alternately, you can read the FAQ about DLL dependencies and start picking away at those.

Like said in the other thread: Cannot execute kix32

Quote:

@Sgtan

MCA is talking about: "Your error cannot execute kix32 isn't a kixtart problem, but possible
a permission problem. Verify your rights to your netlogon directory"

Did you checked that?

Did you checked your permissions and policies?

Co,

He has copied it locally and says he can't execute it. If he can copy it locally it means he has at least MODIFY rights and thus Execute rights. Still doesn't run.

We now recommend quit wasting time on it if this is the only machine with the problem.

I've just been escalated on another NT 4 server behaving exactly the same manner.

Can someone tell me what does the kix32.exe file does or check upon login?

hmmm how could it be another. As I remember it you said that this happened on an NT 4 Workstation (or at least that is what I thought you were talking about)

Is it a WORKSTATION or a SERVER? How many WORKSTATIONS and how many SERVERS ?

Are you now saying that you are unable to execute KIX32.EXe locally on the server or that clients pulling the KIX32.EXE from the server canot execute it locally on the client?

Please repost a very detailed description of the problem.

I am not able to execute KIX32.EXE locally on the server from the command line.

Example:
C:\script test>kix32.exe <hit enter>
_

The cursor just hang. Nothing is displayed.

Euh If i get it... you only start c:\script\kix32.exe? Or do you start
Code:
"c:\script\kix32.exe c:\script\yourscript.kix"

When I execute kix32.exe in a dosbox the following appears:
Quote:

KiXtart 2001 4.22 (Copyright Ruud van Velsen 2003)
Microsoft Windows (logon) script processor.

Note: KiXtart is CareWare, please consult the manual for full details
on distribution and licensing.

Usage :

KIX32 [script1] [...] [$var=123] [/f[:yyyy/mm/dd]] [/r:irel] [/d]

Options:
/f = flush token cache (optionally only if older than date specified)
/r = KXRPC search order (see manual for details)
/d = enable debug mode

I eliminated reading the script file login.kix because it hangs as well. That's why I tried kix32.exe from the command line. Unfortunately, it didn't work either.

To confirm that the kix32.exe file is not corrupted, I copied it to another machine and it works as is shown in your quote below.

The permissions of the NT server are also correctly set.

Nobody is going to serve you an answer on a silver platter. If you want to find out why KiX is hanging on those two NT4 boxes, you will have to do some digging. As I already told you, there is a FAQ that explains file dependencies. Have you looked for the FAQ Analysis of KiX-related files ?

I've done a lot of digging. Yes, I've already check related FAQs and Analysis of Kix-related files as well. So, don't make a sweeping statement comment and assume I'm not finding a solution other than here.

Please perform the following tasks and report the results - copy/paste the DOS screen text
1. CD \Script Test
Dir
- Copy / paste dir listing.
2. MD \T_D
CD \T_D
"\Script Test\kix32.exe"
- note the quotes; copy/paste the screen text; you may delete the T_D folder when this test is complete. The key is to run Kix from an absolutely empty folder. DO NOT use an existing folder by removing the files! Create a new folder, CD to it and run Kix, either from your local or network location.

Do you use software which prevents starting "unknown" executables??? (AV, Firewall, etc)

What information gives the task manager when kix32 hangs?

Did you downloaded a fresh copy of kixtart and tried it again?

Maybe you have checked it already but Please tell us all you did because this can help other people when they have the same problem.
This information can also be relevant for the ones who wants to help you...
