BTW,

Saw this in yesterday's LangaList..
Quote:

New SpyBot Beta and Info
Several readers pointed me to the new version of Spybot in quiet beta testing now. It doesn't appear to be private--- just not publicized--- so here's the link.
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/spybotsd13.exe
But note: It *is* a beta--- unfinished software--- so use with caution. All the normal beta warnings apply: It may crash, or cause your system to crash, or may cause you to lose data, and so on. So don't be upset if you find bugs!
While poking around the rest of the site, I also saw a page that's come a long way since I first saw it: It's a list of popular software that's often infected with some sort of spyware; and a list of spyware-free alternatives. Very handy! See
http://langa.com/u/3i.htm

fixed their bug manually.
their SDhelper.dll was screwed somehow so re-installing even didn't fix that.
renaming on commandline and installing 1.3 again seems to have worked.
at least updates come now.

also, the update sites seem to be a lot overloaded and it has no system of falling back to some other site.
it just keeps failing for months if it feels like it.
1.2 says failed and 1.3 says bad checksum, eyes say file get failed.

anyways, 1.3 seems to run little faster...
seeing it is beta as there is no way to press un-existent immunize button...

after all, in domain env, all I would really need is:
spybotSD.exe /immunize /clean
where immunize would immunize and install the IE helper.
clean would check once for all known bad proggies and take care of them

We use Spyware Blaster religuously. It seems to be have better coverage than Spytbot Search and Destroy. But, the thing that is kind of neat, is that Spybot Search and Destroy acknowleges, Spyware Blaster..

From ver.2 inno setup handles config files.
Both spyblaster and spybot use inno.

Quote:

/LOADINF="filename"
Instructs Setup to load the settings from the specified file after having checked the command line. This file can be prepared using the '/SAVEINF=' command as explained below.

Don't forget to use quotes if the filename contains spaces.

/SAVEINF="filename"
Instructs Setup to save installation settings to the specified file.
Don't forget to use quotes if the filename contains spaces.

might be handy

Yes, it is quite complete.. If you open the program Spybot S&D, and look within the program, under immunization, it tells you, "You have JavaCools SpywareBlaster installed. SpywareBlaster will give you much more control on ActiveX protection. Click here to run it."

So do you run this like at every login? Or just once a month? Or just on a machine that is suspected to have spyware on it?

our IT Admins haven't decided to make it a permanent app, so we just run it on suspected infected machines.

However, We have to go to the machines and install, update, scan, and uninstall it manually. We all know how much Users and their desks smell...

This is convenient for a driveby... click, click and it will run on it's own.

It can even be pushed remotely and save us the effort of standing up and walking

cool article... assuming accuracy it would lead me to believe the Ad-Aware is the better product.

I'd have to see if the cost value of $13,000 vs. free is justified however... Good enough for government work comes to mind
