I have a script that reads IP addresses or hostnames in from a text file. When the list is exactly longer than 1000 lines, the script exits immediately with no errors. Reduce to 1000 and all is well. This happens not matter how I launch Kix: from a batch file, direct on the command prompt, Start>Run, .lnk, etc.

Now, I use ConTEXT as my editor which uses to Conexec.exe as command line wrapper. I can run the script from my editor now matter how many lines in the text file??!!?!? BUT, if I copy that command line using conexec.exe and run it from the command line, it fails yet again!!!!???? WTF.

So, is this a Kix issue or a Windows issue?

If you'd like the code, PM me with your e-mail.

hmm...
I say you may have reached string limit (32.000 chars) but can't say without the script.

Only 12000 chars. It has to do with lines, 1000 is ok, 1001 is bad. I e-mailed the code to your hotmail account with instructions.

I believe that I packaged it with 4.22 which would just exit. If you're seeing 0%, at least it's moving. Try reducing the list.txt file to 1000 lines, and all should work fine. Even better populate with your own IP addresses or hostnames and it will speed up and actually produce data. But at least you're confirming the behaviour.

the exe you had was, iirc build 129 a.k.a 4.20

and, it wasn't moving, killed it after about 20 mins with 0% still in there...
afaik, it stopped at the very first step.
I will probably have a new quick lookie at it later.

btw, kix has a habit of silently quitting when there is com-problem.
so, I think I will reduce your checks a little, just will get of the function calls (you could comment them out too).
this way you can trace where exactly is the problem.

cheers

Dear,

It should indeed something within his code. Normally we haven't any problem with running scripts above
25.000 lines or scripts with one line above 500.000 characters length.
greetings.

EH! It's not the number of lines in the script, it's the number of lines in the text file the script reads.

Thanks Les,

To point us back on track. Normally we are using additional EXE file to read text files with those sizes.
greetings.

The size of the file is relatively small. 1000 lines is not unreasonable.

Are we stating that this is a problem with kix?
