Shawn Shawn Administrator Registered: 1999-08-13 Posts: 8611	Anyone have any comments/feedback/criticisms on the big name Wireless Routers out there - looking at Linksys, D-Link and SMC ... and big question - has anyone tried the Microsoft wireless routers ?

Shawn Shawn Administrator Registered: 1999-08-13 Posts: 8611	thx - one of the bb guys was saying linksys had some firmware issues, but that is all behind them now. Some at work have warned me of wireless flakeyness ie - the link will just drop for no good reason and have to reset the router - that kinda thing.

The weird drop offs and resets disappeared once Linksys upgraded the firmware. I never had these problems with Linksys's 2.x and 3.x series wireless routers, just the 4.x series. Now though, the 4.x series are fine. I'm happy with it. _________________________ (... better days ahead)

My telewest modem connects straight in to the input, and I can network with the LAN rj45's or the wireless side. Data transfer through wireless is at best 700k and can fall off with distance, 100 meg on the lanes. You need the transmitter up high to give an umbrella signal over the house. Hope this helps. Big Mistake. Random Disconnects, and slow as hell. This was the original problem, but was "fixed" by an earlier firmware. I even tried going back to the previous firmware... but no luck. My advice... stay away from this model. For more peoples grumblings: http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,8669088~mode=flat;days=9999~start=0 If you read any of the posts from the link above, a few people said Linksys is actually providing an older product as the "fix" for their new product. Great, for stability, I have to give up any future upgrades. Urgh! _________________________ (... better days ahead)
