Hello everyone,
I wrote a Kixtart script editor in VB and it's pretty much finished. I started it for myself and my co-workers for our companys scripts but theres no reason others can't use it. It's freeware (well postcardware..) so anyone can use it for any purpose, business or personal. You can visit the site http://www.gardinertrane.com/kixtarter/index.htm for more information or you can download the latest version here: Kixtarter 1.1.2. Its currently a 1.8Mb Windows Installer file so all it needs is the Windows installer files which should be present on Windows 2000 and higher, or downloadable free from Microsoft for other versions of windows. Heres a brief list of the features:
1. Color highlighting of Kixtart script keywords (commands, functions, variables, macros, and comments) with the ability to change the highlight color.
2. Easily insert basic commands with syntax filled in.
3. Gives you ability to debug script files with a built in output window.
4. Can associate .scr and .kix files to this program with its own icon.
5. Supports most text editing features (Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo, Save, Save As, Print, etc)
6. Ability to switch compatibility between version 3.61 and version 4.22 for shops operating older versions of Kixtart.
7. Keywords can be switched to Upper or MixedCase automatically.
I've gone trhough and tested all I can, now I need others to do the same. If you do download it please let me know what you think, any bugs you find, and any comments you have. Thanks.
Allan

Lonkero,
These are the things I need to know. I'll have to look through the install stuff and see if I can use a variable for the shortcut locations instead of forcing Start Menu -> Programs. also as for the variable I think I can reprogram the color routine to ignore a "." as a delimiter, so it will include it and the word afterward as the entire variable. Please guys, keep the suggestions coming.
Allan.

I set the location of the KIX32.EXE in the c:\scripts folder.. Try to run test script from the c:\!kix folder and am not able to? Recieved a message to send info to Microsoft.
I am going to restart now to see what happens.

Running Windows XP? I know some of the API calls changed between Win98/ME/2000 and XP and I'm using one to redirect the output from the Kix32.exe to my text box. I plan on giving users a choice between redirecting to my window or having the debug open a command prompt. Opening in a command prompt is safer and would allow user interaction with the script, while currently it dosn't. Thanks for the feedback.

also check in %path%
I keep kix32.exe in %windir%, but many keep it in %windir%\system32

Kent,
Does your script require a users reply, like a variable assigned to a messagebox? If so then this is the one major bug I do know about (check the readme). For some reason I'm having trouble sending the reply back to the running script, one of the reasons I plan on doing the debug outside of my program until I can figure it out, which might be a while. If its not looking for a response let me know or email me your script if possible so I can try to crash mine.

I assigned kix scripts to 'open with' and directed it to the editor, now when I rightclick, open with the item in in the list, bud it is very lengthy. "kixtarter is a text editor... postcardware..."
