Hi,

Since I couldn't find this through searching the forum or on MS's site, I wanted to ask if there was anyone out there who had experience using xcalc.exe successfully with nt and xp?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Guessing the version of XCACLS may have something to do with it. There is a bug with regard to incorrectly ordered ACEs with CACLS that I assume XCACLS would also suffer from. The newer SubInAcl does not share that bug.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't actually have a problem with it(yet), I just wanted to do some research on it before trying to implement it as a solution for my company. I appreciate your help.

MS has an updated version of this on their ftp site. I think there has been several updates & versions of xcalc though. Try checking MS knowledge base on this issue.

See also Tools for setting ACLs .

I've switched to FILEACL because of the XCACLS bug and becasue I can retrieve the correct command-line parameters to set a particular combination of ACLs with FILEACL.

My main reason for asking was also just because on MS's site the download for it says it only supports W2K operating systems. I really appeciate hearing about what has worked for you. Better to learn from others I think, rather than going into something somewhat blindly! Thanks for all your help!

microcephalic,

Here is some more information on the subject.
I also posted the XCACLS.VBS here on Korg (with the Authors permission)
It is not the latest version though.

The SubInACL does appear to share that same bug according to MSKB 296865

Les/Kent,
Maybe you could add an FAQ on this subject as it does seem to keep coming up
every now and then.
