This is driving me crazy! I've been trying to install a network card in my home computer (AMD Athlon 750Mhz, 512MB, WinXP Home Ed.).

I've tried two different cards, one Ethernet and one wireless USB adapter. Regardless of which one I install, explorer.exe starts pegging the CPU at 100% and begins using all of the memory until the machine crashes.

The funny thing is that I can plug my cable modem directly into a USB port and everything works fine.

Has anyone ever had this happen? No conflicts show up in the Device Manager. I'm getting ready to uninstall McAfee Internet Security and Firewall to see if they might be conflicting with it.

Thanks,
Jason

is your OS cracked?
with this kinda change in hardware, it at least should start scanning your devices again and maybe even ask for re-activation.

have you tried to add the card WITH the cable-modem still connected?

First of all.. Nuke Home Edition.. You will be better served by Pro..

Check to see if the "XP Firewall" is enabled or not.

Sorry.. You are right.. I guess that never really came to light as we have a Select CD subscription and we don't really think about such things. [Roll Eyes]

Dear,

What are the prices for Windows XP. Very different.
At our country it costs
quote:

- windows xp home edition, euro 269
- windows xp professional edition, euro 384
- upgrade xp windows home edition, euro 147
- upgrade xp windows professional edition, euro 254

So Lonkero are you referencing to prices in your country?

Of course you will advice to go also for the Windows xp professional edition
greetings.

lol.
I don't speak about bundle prices.
pure OEM as you don't do anything with the soft nor comp without the soft.
the prizes should be about same everywhere.

so, just check the OEM prizes. should be for home something like 69€

Dear,

It should be the same, but it isn't.
Those prices are much higher, when you buy it by a third party.
They know that not everyone knows alternatives for better prices. For everyone
the computer business isn't their core business.

So very funny is it when we see a offer for
- UPS for Windows 2003.
- Antivirus implementation with an additional license bill for one year definition updates.

greetings.
