I was reading up on the thousands of posts regarding "Run As Admin".

And I downloaded "TQCRunAs" which I think is the best option to go for.

BUT it costs money, not much but enough to put people off of it, so I have decided to write my own using RunAs created by ANB Software which is FREEWARE.

I will use KixForms to copy the GUI front end of TCQRunAs, and will use KixCrypt to make a exe file at the end.

This sounds a good idea to me so I will start work on it now, if someone has done something like this already then let me know.

I will carry on doing it as I just love creating scripts with KixForms.

Thanks

Richard,

Sounds interesting. Count me in as a beta tester.

Ask Jooel how to use KiXforms with KiXcrypt, cause he uses it with his checker...

Does the TCQ version run directly from the command line, or does it have to be installed as a service?

As long as you run the TQC file from where the TCQExecuatble is then it works fine no service needed.

I have nearly completed my version of TQCRunAs, so hold tight I should have it completed by Wednesday, then I will need some testers.

Thanks

I have found a bug with the ANB - RunAs software so I am contacting the company and hope to have some feed back ASAP.

Bug:

If you want to use a domain's username and password, you must type in the user like this {/user:Domain\Administrator} , but it translates it to {/user:WorkstationName\Domain Name\Administrator} causing a error.

And when locating RunAs application on a network share, you recieve a error saying: {267 - The directory name is invalid.}

Ok after some testing, I think I am back on track, the only downside is that the file needs to be run from a local drive.

Not a problem, will copy RunAs.EXE to a temp folder then delete when finished.

The username issue I think is sorted.

Will post with code in next couple of days.

Hi,

I tried to download the runas tool from ANB, but this site doesn't exist. So wrong link??

P.S
It would be a really nice feature if kixtart would be able to run as an Admin on demand. [Wink]

yours,

Marck

marck1: See the FAQ Forum, TcQRunAs is just one of many possible solutions.

However, I am a proponent of doing installs only under admin accounts and not using work-arounds like the RunAs approach.

Jens I still think that using JT is the way to go, and I am going to introduce into our domain a KiX Management System like yours where the workstation requests an update and then the management server runs JT down to that workstation.

KixRunAs program should give me some time to get my head around using a management server and workstation requests.
