A quick (but insecure) method is to set the hidden atribute
for the item in question. (eg from Windows 95)
code:

$path = "C:|Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\"
$file = "Notepad.lnk"
$aa = GetFileAttr($path+$file)
$rc = SetFileAttr($path+$file,$aa | 2)

This will remove the item from the Start menu in Windows 9x,
however it is still available from Windows Explorer with
'Show ALL Files' set.
To clear the hidden atribute use

SetFileAttr($path+$file,$aa & &FFFD)
